ST. DAVID’S MASTER PLAN, March 9, 2008
Based upon the feedback from the two congregational forums and recent cost projections, the Master Plan Committee is recommending a revised Master Plan to the Bishop’s Committee. This Master Plan is a flexible template that addresses the needs of the congregation as specified in the Long Range Planning Report. The Master Plan can be changed if the needs and desires of the congregation change. This Master Plan can also be changed and amended depending on the monies raised by the Capital Campaign Committee. It is a guideline; a way of fulfilling the desires specified by the Long Range Plan over a period of 10 years, and should not be taken as a fixed, non-amendable process. The Master Plan has been divided into three phases.
PHASE ONE will address the immediate needs of the church by adding a large narthex area, kitchen, restrooms, and a library/classroom/conversation area. Phase 1 sees the future narthex area serving as not only a gathering area before and after the church services, but as a larger extension of the current worship space. In this function the new narthex can have overflow seating for special holidays and special musical events. It also will be usable as a fellowship area with table seating for 48. The worship space can also be rearranged with table seating for an additional 88. In this way the two areas together will fulfill the need for a separate large fellowship hall which was included in the initial presentation. The wall between the narthex and the worship space will be as open as possible, with the final design to be determined by the Building Committee. The area labeled “Family Room” will be for multiple uses – library, Sunday morning child care, small meeting room, and casual conversations. The new kitchen eliminates the need for a kitchenette, but there is a “coffee station” just outside the kitchen.
PHASE TWO will involve remodeling Ackerman Hall (Parish House) into offices and classroom/meeting room. There is some consideration being given to implementing this Phase with volunteer labor from parishioners and friends.
PHASE THREE would add a large “Other Ministry Space” to the south of the new building. This “Other Ministry Space” can meet the needs of the church identified at a future date.
The Master Plan Committee is excited about this restructuring of our initial plan in response to congregational concerns and cost projections. It was our goal to meet the needs of St. David’s as defined by the Long Range Planning Committee and still keep the considerations of cost, size and dedication to the Church’s mission as essential and vital parts of our decision making. We feel this Plan accomplishes that mission and we hope you think so too.
Footnote: The elevation drawings (drawings that look like the church in three dimensions) as presented in forums were for illustration only and are not a part of the Master Plan. Elevation drawings will be redone to fit the actual design drawings when the design is determined. Design issues raised during our discussions, including the advisability of a flat roof, will be carefully evaluated during the design process. The sanctuary is shown without a seating diagram in order to allow for discussion and decisions at a later time regarding which of several alternatives, including the present arrangement, will be used.
We have higher-resolution files of the Revised Master Plan layouts for those who are patient enough to download them!

Hi folks – just a comment – what about the possibility of using geo-thermal for the heating, cooling, water heating, humidifier? With the new funds available through the govt would there be grants available? Also, any other organization promoting green.
Mike and I have geo-thermal – and have had one problem in 9 years that cost $80 (I was supposed to clean the drain annually and did not so it got clogged up so needed a service call – now I know how to do it). Recommended service is only every three years and we have a permanent air filter that Mike hoses off each spring and fall for cleaning – that is it!

I know we talked about this, Marylin, & can’t remember what happened – I will forward your comment to Verne & Doug in case they want to respond. I do know the budget is extremely tight!
